The research project ‘The Making Unfinished’ was developed during the three months of the TaDA residency in Arbon, close to St.Gallen. During the research I analysed the vision of the world by the Yoruba, in which the spatial and temporal sense is built to merge the past, present and future into a circular figure. Another very important topic that I explored through the research is the relation between the Swiss textile industry, especially in eastern Switzerland, and the colonies and the slave trades. The assemblable and modular carpet developed in collaboration with Tisca is designed to be used also as a tool to trace new patterns and extend the functionality of the project to create new design processes. The traditional towels from Rigotex have been transformed into a tote bag by cutting out the handles, sewing together the sides and the bottom. In this case it keeps the properties and functionalities of the towel and it could be easily used also as an original object. Based on the research and the symbolism of the cardboard, it was transformed with the crochet technique into a flexible and waterproof material. The new textile aims to create a reparation of something hidden, untold and invisible, like the relation of Switzerland with colonialism.
In collaboration with the TaDA partners: Tisca, Rigotex, TDS, Textilmuseum and Lobra.
